Summary

The XP95 DIN-Rail Dual Isolator provides two independent isolators in a single housing, designed to sense and isolate short-circuits on XP95 loops and spurs. Each isolator channel operates completely independently, ensuring maximum system reliability and fault containment.

Compatible with Apollo Series 90, XP95, and Discovery protocols, the device is loop-powered and polarity sensitive. When a short-circuit or abnormally low impedance occurs, the isolator automatically senses the voltage drop and isolates the negative supply in the direction of the fault. The affected channel’s yellow LED illuminates to provide visual confirmation, and the isolated section is tested every five seconds using a current pulse. Once the fault is cleared, power is automatically restored without manual intervention.

The unit mounts on standard 35mm DIN rail or can be fixed directly to an enclosure, with plug-in terminal blocks accepting wires up to 2.5mm². This compact design allows for flexible installation whilst maintaining full functionality across both channels.

FAQ

How many detectors can be installed between isolators?

A maximum of twenty XP95 detectors may be installed between isolators to ensure proper system protection and fault isolation.

What happens when a short-circuit occurs?

When a short-circuit or abnormally low impedance occurs across the loop, the isolator senses the fall in voltage and isolates the negative supply in the direction of the fault. The yellow LED on the affected channel illuminates to indicate the isolation condition. The isolated section is tested every five seconds using a current pulse, and when the short-circuit is removed, power is automatically restored.

Are the two isolator channels interconnected?

No, the two isolator channels are not interconnected internally and operate completely independently of one another. Each channel can isolate faults on its respective circuit without affecting the other channel.

Which fire alarm protocols is this isolator compatible with?

The DIN-Rail Dual Isolator is compatible with systems using Apollo Series 90, XP95, or Discovery protocols, providing flexible integration options for various fire detection systems.

How is the isolator mounted?

The isolator can be clipped onto a standard 35mm DIN rail (DIN 46277) or fixed directly to an enclosure using two 4mm screws. Connections are made via plug-in terminal blocks which accept wires up to 2.5mm².

What is the operating temperature range?

The isolator operates in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +60°C, with a storage temperature range of -30°C to +80°C. It is designed for indoor use only in relative humidity conditions of 0% to 95% without condensation or icing.

Does the isolator require external power?

No, the isolator is loop-powered, drawing its operating power from the fire alarm loop itself. It has very low current consumption of just 27µA at 18V and 47µA at 28V under normal conditions.
