What is the IP66 rating and what does it mean for this product?

IP66 is an Ingress Protection rating that indicates the device is completely dust-tight (6) and protected against powerful water jets from any direction (6). This means the ViAC-CNP-66 has been tested against dust particles and water jets when installed appropriately in accordance with the installation instructions and with all seals correctly positioned. This makes it ideal for wet environments such as showers, bathrooms, and changing areas. However, it’s important to note that this product must not be immersed in water – it is protected against water jets, not full submersion.

Can the ViAC-CNP-66 be used to replace a standard cancel plate?

Yes, the ViAC-CNP-66 can be used to replace a standard ViAC-CNP cancel plate. However, it’s important to note that this weatherproof version only has visual indication (the blue LED) – it does not include an audible sounder. This makes it suitable for wet areas where a standard cancel may be unsuitable, but you should ensure that visual indication alone meets your application requirements.

How many cancel buttons are typically required in an installation?

Generally, one cancel button is used per room or area. However, in some cases, two units may be required. If you need to install multiple cancel buttons in the same space, it’s recommended to contact the Vox Ignis technical department for guidance on the correct configuration for your specific installation.

What systems is the ViAC-CNP-66 compatible with?

The ViAC-CNP-66 is fully compatible with several Vox Ignis and Lexicomm systems including: the Lexicomm EVC range of equipment, Lexicomm LX228 panels, Lexicomm Network range of panels, AssistCall standalone 4 Zone controllers, AssistCall 1 Zone controllers, and the ViAC-RTK Remote kit. This wide compatibility makes it a versatile solution for both new installations and upgrades to existing systems.

What is the correct mounting height for the cancel button?

The ViAC-CNP-66 should be mounted between 800mm and 1000mm from the floor in accordance with BS 8300-2:2018 standards. Additionally, a lower call button should be mounted at 100mm from the floor to ensure accessibility for users who may have fallen or are in different positions. This dual-height arrangement ensures the alarm system is accessible in various emergency situations.

What cable entries are available and where should drain holes be positioned?

The unit provides five 20mm cable entry positions: top, bottom, side, and rear (via cut-out). For side, top, or rear entry installations, the lowermost drain hole must be drilled out using a 5mm drill – only one drain hole position should be drilled. For bottom entry, a drain hole must NOT be drilled in the rear box, but must be drilled at the lowermost point of the conduit run. Opening the drain hole will compromise the IP66 rating, so particular care should be taken to ensure no water is directed at the drain hole once installed.

What wiring is required for installation?

For simplicity, all wiring uses standard two-core cable. The wiring order of devices is not fixed and can be connected in any order, giving total flexibility during installation. The cable should be connected to the Line + and 0 terminals. There are two sets of 2-part removable terminals which are not marked as in or out – it doesn’t matter which is used for incoming or outgoing connections, however polarity is important and must be observed. Recommended cables are 2 core 1mm PVC or fire rated cable up to 500m, or Cat5/6 (1 pair 0.22mm) up to 50m from the panel/controller.

How should the stainless steel surface be maintained?

Over time, environmental conditions and weathering may affect the stainless steel finish of the product, particularly in coastal regions where some discolouration may occur. It is recommended that the surface is cleaned with a soft cloth soaked in neutral oil, such as WD-40. This cleaning process should be repeated up to four times per year to maintain the appearance and protective qualities of the stainless steel finish.

What happens when an alarm is activated and acknowledged?

When an alarm is activated, the blue indicator on the cancel button flashes to provide visual feedback. When a care staff member or responder acknowledges the alarm, the indicator changes to steady (non-flashing) illumination. The button itself is a momentary sprung switch, which means when pressed, it cancels the alarm. This provides clear visual communication of the alarm status to both users and staff.

What is the EOL resistor and when should it be fitted?

EOL stands for End Of Line resistor. If the ViAC-CNP-66 is the last device in the circuit, the EOL resistor should be fitted to the unused terminal set. This is applicable for monitored line circuits and allows the control panel to detect faults in the wiring such as open or short circuits. Note that 1 Zone controllers do not have monitored line circuits and therefore do not require an EOL resistor.
