Summary

The VESDA-E VEA series combines proven VESDA reliability and early warning smoke detection with revolutionary pinpoint addressability and comprehensive annunciation options. Using patented air sampling points and multi-channel microbore air sampling technology, the VEA provides three alarm sensitivity settings for individual sampling points, enabling precise customisation for diverse protection requirements.

As a multi-channel addressable system, the VEA detector divides protected spaces into up to 40 individual sampling locations, enabling precise localization of potential fire sources for faster incident response. This capability makes it ideal for applications where pinpoint location of fire events is essential, providing optimal fire detection solutions for healthcare facilities, offices, educational institutions, retail environments, correctional facilities, and electrical cabinets.

Available in two models – the VEA-040-A00 with LED indicators and the VEA-040-A10 featuring a 3.5″ colour LCD display – both detectors feature robust IP40-rated enclosures and powerful linear vacuum pumps providing up to 100m (328 ft) microbore tube length per sampling point. The VEA series offers assured detection with comprehensive system integrity monitoring, interruption-free business operation through centralised testing and maintenance, and automatic detection of sampling point presence, tube breakage, and blockages at set intervals.

When it comes to smoke and fire detection, seconds count. That’s why more and more people are using Xtralis technology to protect their facilities and minimize the risk from fire.

Xtralis VESDA is the global leader in aspirating smoke detection and very early warning. Building on Xtralis’s proven detection performance combined with an innovative air sampling method, VESDA E VEA delivers a pinpoint addressable ASD solution for standard detection applications. VESDA E VEA draws air along a network of microbore tubes from individual sample points to the central detector. Inside the detector, the air sample is filtered to remove contaminants and other foreign material to minimize potential nuisance alarms and then pass through a laser-based absolutely calibrated detection chamber. Once smoke is detected, the VEA raises an alarm and then identifies the location of the fire.

VESDA E VEA incorporates patented sample points and tube integrity monitoring to ensure smoke detection capability is not compromised and also provides sample point self-cleaning. Combining these features allows centralized maintenance and the ability to conduct servicing at the detector. This allows interruption-free operation in the protected area and significantly reduces the time and cost to undertake service or maintenance. These benefits are valued in hospitals, nursing homes, corporate office buildings, schools, university campuses, prisons, and retail spaces.

As part of the new VESDA E family, VESDA E VEA offers flexible networking options, replaceable filed components, and is expandable up to 120 addresses from a single fire zone. VESDA E VEA, a true alternative to traditional smoke detection with the advantages of VESDA detection performance, system integrity monitoring, and centralized maintenance.

Xtralis, the sooner you know, the safer you are.

FAQ

What is pinpoint addressability and how does it work in the VEA system?

Pinpoint addressability allows the VEA to identify the exact sampling point location where smoke is detected among up to 40 individual sampling points. After a Fire 1 alarm is raised, the system sequentially scans sampling locations via a rotary valve to identify one or more specific locations with the fire alarm event. This enables precise fire source localization for faster incident response compared to traditional area detection systems.

What applications benefit most from the VEA’s pinpoint addressability?

The VEA is ideal for applications where precise fire source location is essential, including healthcare facilities (patient rooms, operating theaters), office buildings (individual workstations, server rooms), educational institutions (classrooms, laboratories), retail environments (individual shops, storage areas), correctional facilities (individual cells), and electrical cabinets where pinpointing the exact location enables faster response and minimizes disruption.

How does the VEA’s microbore tube system work?

The VEA uses patented air sampling points connected via flexible microbore tubing (normal diameter: OD 6mm, ID 4mm, or reduced diameter: OD 4mm, ID 2.5mm) up to 100m per tube for normal diameter. A linear vacuum pump draws combined air samples from all sampling points, which are then filtered and analyzed in laser detection chambers. The system monitors airflow to detect tube breakages, blockages, or sampling point issues.

What are the three alarm sensitivity settings and how are they used?

The VEA offers three Fire-1 alarm threshold settings at each sampling point: High (1.6% obs/m), Enhanced (4.0% obs/m), and Standard (8.0% obs/m). This allows customization based on the specific environment and fire risk at each location. For example, high-risk areas like electrical equipment might use the High setting, while general office areas might use Standard settings.

How does the automatic maintenance and monitoring system work?

The VEA provides comprehensive automatic monitoring including sampling point presence detection, tube breakage detection, single tube blockage detection, and automatic sampling point cleaning – all at set intervals. This ensures continuous system integrity while minimizing manual maintenance requirements. The system provides interruption-free business operation through centralized testing and maintenance capabilities.

What connectivity options does the VEA offer for integration and monitoring?

The VEA includes Ethernet 100BASE-T and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity as standard features, allowing integration with corporate networks. WiFi-enabled tablets and laptops with Xtralis configuration software can connect wirelessly for remote configuration and monitoring. The system also features VESDAnet networking for robust communication, USB connectivity for field maintenance, and optional Relay StaX modules for fire panel loop integration.
