What are over-the-air updates and why are they important?

Over-the-air updates allow the control panel to automatically update firmware on connected wireless devices without requiring a site visit. This keeps your system future-proof with the latest features and security patches, reduces ongoing maintenance costs, and minimizes labour time onsite. Updates can be scheduled and deployed remotely via the SecureConnect platform, ensuring your system stays current throughout its lifespan.

How does the hybrid expansion system work?

The 80HE hybrid system allows you to mix wired and wireless zones according to your needs. You start with 30 radio zones and 10 wired zones on board (40 zones total), and can expand to 80 zones using various expanders including EXP-2R (2 radio zones), EXP-2R-MULTI (multi-purpose radio expander), EXP-W10 (10 wired zones), or additional power supply units with zone expansion. This flexibility lets you choose the most cost-effective and practical solution for each area of your property.

What communication options are available and what is dual-path connectivity?

The 80HE includes built-in Ethernet connectivity as standard. Optional plug-on cloud communicators add WiFi, 4G cellular, or both combined. Dual-path connectivity means using two different communication methods simultaneously (such as Ethernet plus 4G, or WiFi plus 4G), ensuring the system can still report to monitoring stations or send notifications even if your primary internet connection fails, providing maximum reliability for critical alarm signals.

How does SecureConnect cloud and app control work?

SecureConnect is Eaton’s cloud platform that enables remote system management via web browser or mobile app. With built-in Ethernet, the 80HE connects to SecureConnect at no extra cost. You can arm/disarm the system, view zone status, manage users, identify faults, and receive push notifications from anywhere. Installers can remotely diagnose issues, update programming, and perform maintenance without site visits. The app provides end users with convenient control and real-time alarm notifications on their smartphones.

What is perimeter zone functionality?

Perimeter zone functionality allows you to designate specific zones as perimeter protection (such as doors and windows) that can be monitored separately from interior zones. This enables part-arming scenarios where you can arm the perimeter while moving freely inside, or create custom arming schedules that activate perimeter zones at different times than interior zones, providing more flexible security control.

Is the system backward compatible with existing Scantronic radio devices?

Yes, the 80HE with SSR technology is both backward and forward compatible with all Scantronic radio peripherals. This means you can integrate existing Scantronic wireless devices into new installations, protecting your investment in current equipment while benefiting from the enhanced security and features of the SSR platform. It also ensures future devices will work with your current panel.

How many keypads can I connect to the system?

The 80HE supports up to 20 bus devices in total, which can be any combination of keypads, expanders, and power supplies. This allows multiple keypad locations throughout larger properties or commercial premises. The system includes one KEY-KPZ01 keypad with integrated zones and proximity reader, and additional keypads can be added as needed up to the 20 device limit.
