An IP camera is only as reliable as the network sitting behind it.
On a straightforward installation, that side of the job can be fairly simple. Add more cameras, longer cable runs, multiple buildings or higher-bandwidth devices, though, and the switches and network links quickly become just as important as the equipment hanging on the wall.
That is why we’ve expanded the networking range at Huvo with a selection of Ruijie Reyee switches, wireless bridges and Wi-Fi equipment aimed particularly at CCTV, small-to-medium commercial networks and connected sites.
There are six new additions to the range, covering everything from a four-camera PoE installation to a 5 km wireless link between buildings — with cloud management running through much of the range.
PoE switches built with CCTV in mind
For smaller IP CCTV installations, the RG-ES206GS-P gives you four Gigabit PoE+ ports with a total 54W PoE budget, alongside Gigabit uplink connectivity.
Step up to the RG-ES210GS-P and that increases to eight PoE+ ports and a 120W budget, making it better suited to larger camera systems or installations where the switch also needs to power access points and other PoE devices.
But the more interesting features are the ones designed specifically around CCTV.
Both models support automatic IP camera and NVR recognition, extended transmission of up to 250 metres, camera offline alerts and remote port rebooting. A PoE watchdog can also recover an unresponsive powered device automatically, while automatic loop prevention helps keep the network running if a loop is introduced.
For an installer, that can mean fewer unnecessary trips back to site. If a camera drops offline or needs a power cycle, there is a good chance you can identify the problem — and potentially resolve it — remotely.
When Gigabit becomes the bottleneck
The RG-ES206MG-P takes things up a level.
It provides four 2.5 Gigabit PoE+ ports, an additional 2.5G Ethernet port and a dedicated 10GE SFP+ uplink, with a 70W total PoE budget.
That makes it particularly useful where the devices connected to the switch can actually use more than a standard Gigabit connection — Wi-Fi 6/7 access points being the obvious example.
Traditional Gigabit Ethernet can become the limiting factor when a modern wireless access point is capable of delivering more than 1 Gbps of aggregate traffic. The RG-ES206MG-P removes that bottleneck while still providing PoE power, cloud management, link aggregation and PoE watchdog functionality in a compact switch.
It also makes a particularly neat partner for another of the new additions to Huvo.
Wi-Fi 7, without overcomplicating it
The RG-RAP72 is a ceiling-mount Wi-Fi 7 BE3600 access point, providing a combined wireless data rate of up to 3570 Mbps across its 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios.
More importantly for the wired side of the installation, it includes a 2.5GbE uplink — so pairing it with a multi-Gigabit switch such as the RG-ES206MG-P allows the connection back to the network to keep pace.
Wi-Fi 7 features including Multi-Link Operation, Preamble Puncturing and Multiple Resource Units are designed to improve throughput, latency and performance when multiple devices are competing for airtime. Ruijie also adds its WIO 3.0 AI optimisation system, Reyee Mesh support and AI roaming, with support for up to 511 associated wireless clients.
For offices, hospitality, retail and other busy environments, it is a relatively simple way to introduce Wi-Fi 7 without moving into much larger enterprise networking hardware.
Taking the network where cable becomes difficult
Sometimes the problem is not bandwidth. It is getting the connection there in the first place.
Running new copper or fibre between buildings can quickly become expensive once trenching, ducting, roadways or inaccessible areas get involved. For sites with suitable line of sight, a wireless bridge can provide a much cleaner alternative.
We’ve added two Reyee options for different distances.
The RG-EST310 V2 is supplied as a paired set and provides a 5 GHz wireless bridge for links of up to 1 km. The two units are factory-paired, so a basic point-to-point link can be established without manually configuring both ends.
With an IP54 weatherproof enclosure, automatic re-bridging after a power interruption and support for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint installations, it is particularly well suited to CCTV applications across buildings, campuses and other sites where running a physical data cable is impractical.
For considerably longer links, the RG-EST350G extends the concept out to 5 km.
It uses an integrated 16 dBi directional antenna, offers three Gigabit Ethernet ports on each unit and carries an IP55 weatherproof rating. Ruijie quotes approximately 150 Mbps of throughput at the full 5 km working distance, with higher throughput available across shorter links.
The EST350G also adds automatic PTP pairing, spectrum scanning and alignment tools to make installation easier, along with flexible 12V DC, passive PoE and standard 802.3af/at power options.
For farms, industrial sites, schools, campuses or simply two buildings separated by a car park, it can avoid a substantial amount of civil work.
One cloud, fewer site visits
There is a common thread running through the new Reyee products: remote management.
Ruijie Cloud and the Reyee app allow compatible switches, access points and wireless bridges to be monitored and configured remotely, rather than treating every piece of network infrastructure as an isolated device.
That is particularly useful in security installations. Seeing switch status, checking a wireless bridge or remotely rebooting a PoE camera can turn what would previously have been a site visit into a few minutes of remote diagnosis.
And because the products cover several different parts of the network, there is scope to build more of the installation around one ecosystem rather than mixing switches, bridges and wireless equipment from completely unrelated platforms.
