
Speccing a single-loop addressable panel usually means a familiar trade-off. The panel itself looks affordable – until you add a network card for a multi-panel site, a communicator for remote access, and the engineer time to configure it all. By the time the extras are on the quote, the “budget” option isn’t.
The Zeta SmartConnect takes a different approach. Networking, TCP/IP connectivity and cloud remote monitoring are built into the panel as standard – no add-on cards, no separate communicator. For smaller addressable installations, that changes the maths on what a single-loop system costs to put in.
What comes as standard
The panel is housed in a flame-retardant ABS enclosure with a fully removable front cover, which makes cable installation noticeably easier.
Programme it from the front panel — no laptop required
Everything you can do through the PC configuration software, you can do through the touchscreen. On-site changes — device descriptions, zone text, cause and effect — don’t depend on having a laptop and lead in the van. For service and maintenance visits, that’s real time saved.
If you’d rather work from a PC, the configuration software is straightforward to pick up, and the panel’s USB connection makes uploads simple.
One extra touch: provide us with your company logo and we can preload it onto the panel screen before dispatch — a small branding opportunity on every handover.

Remote access, with control in the right hands
The built-in TCP/IP connection means fire and fault events can be received on a smartphone app, and through the web client you get a level of remote control — starting and stopping sounders, updating device descriptions and zone text — without a site visit.
Importantly, two-way remote access only works once it has been enabled at the panel itself. Nobody gets control of a system unless someone on site has deliberately switched that connection on.
Moving up from two-wire? This is the natural step
Plenty of installers run the Zeta ID2 two-wire addressable system on smaller jobs — and for good reason. But every ID2 installer eventually lands a project that outgrows it. Here’s how the SmartConnect compares:
- Zones: the ID2 is limited to 8 zones; the SmartConnect gives you 250, with LED indication on 16.
- Devices per zone: the ID2 caps you at 15 devices per zone. The SmartConnect has no such restriction — 30 devices in a zone is no problem.
- Wiring: this is the one to plan for. The ID2 can be wired radially or in a loop; the SmartConnect is loop-only. If you’re pre-wiring, wire for a loop from the start.
- Programming: out of the box, the SmartConnect is preloaded with a one-in, all-out configuration. If that’s all the job needs, there’s nothing to programme — power up, address your devices and test.
Because the SmartConnect is priced so competitively, the step up from a two-wire system is smaller than you might expect.
Day/night programming that earns its keep
The SmartConnect supports Zeta MKII multi-sensor detectors with full day and night mode programming. That means a detector can run heat-only during working hours and switch to smoke sensitivity out of hours — ideal for office kitchens, school food tech rooms, or venues where evening conditions would trigger daytime settings.
Beyond mode switching, cause and effect programming is built on easy-to-understand logic statements — DIRECT, AND and OR — so site-specific logic doesn’t mean wading through complexity. You’ve also got alarm verification and positive alarm sequence (an investigation delay) available, so the panel adapts to how a building is actually used rather than forcing a compromise.
Room to grow
The MKII protocol carries a comprehensive range of ancillaries — input/output (IO) units, mains-rated IO units and sounder controllers — and the sounder bases are quick to fit, with the flexibility to decide sounder positions after first fix. Detector heads can be removed and refitted without raising a device fault, which makes maintenance visits cleaner.
And when a project needs more than one loop, the Smart range scales to multi-loop panels for larger sites — so the protocol knowledge, devices and software experience carry straight over.
