What’s the difference between FireProtect and FireProtect Plus?

FireProtect Plus includes all the features of the standard FireProtect model but adds carbon monoxide (CO) detection capability. Both models detect smoke and rapid temperature changes, but FireProtect Plus also monitors dangerous CO levels. The standard FireProtect has a 10-year lifespan, while FireProtect Plus has a 7-year lifespan due to the additional CO sensor.

What does the FireProtect Plus detect in terms of carbon monoxide levels?

FireProtect Plus generates CO alarms at the following concentration levels: 0.003% (30 ppm) within 120 minutes or more; 0.005% (50 ppm) within 60-89 minutes; 0.01% (100 ppm) within 10-39 minutes; and 0.03% (300 ppm) within 3 minutes. The detector stops notifying about dangerous CO levels when the concentration drops to 40 ppm (0.004%) within one minute.

How long do the batteries last in both models?

Both FireProtect and FireProtect Plus models provide up to 4 years of autonomous operation on pre-installed batteries. Each uses 2 x CR2 batteries as the main power supply and 1 x CR2032 battery as backup power. You’ll receive notifications when batteries need replacement, and the detectors will emit sound signals every 90 seconds when batteries are low.

What is the wireless range for both detectors?

Both FireProtect and FireProtect Plus can communicate with the Ajax hub at distances up to 1,300 meters in line of sight using the Jeweller radio protocol. The actual range depends on obstacles like walls, floors, and large objects that may interfere with radio signal transmission.

Can both detectors work without an Ajax hub?

Yes, both FireProtect and FireProtect Plus can operate autonomously without connecting to a security system. In autonomous mode, they will notify you of detected fire, smoke, or (in the case of FireProtect Plus) carbon monoxide with the built-in siren and LED indication, but won’t send notifications to your smartphone or monitoring station.

How do I turn off the alarm when either detector is triggered?

There are three ways to turn off the siren on both models: 1) Press the Ajax logo on the device lid (touch button), 2) Use the Ajax app on your smartphone, or 3) Press the “*” button on KeyPad/KeyPad Plus (if the Interconnected Fire Detectors Alarm feature is enabled and properly configured).

What are the different sound signals and what do they mean?

Both detectors use various sound patterns: One short signal per 90 seconds indicates main batteries are low; two short signals per 90 seconds means backup battery is low; three short signals per 90 seconds indicates both batteries are low. FireProtect Plus has an additional signal: one long sound signal per 90 seconds indicates smoke or CO detector malfunction (contamination or need for recalibration).

Where should I install these detectors?

Install both detectors on the ceiling at the highest point where hot air and smoke concentrate during a fire. Do not install them outdoors, near metal objects or mirrors, in areas with fast air circulation, closer than 1 meter to cooking surfaces, in areas with extreme temperature/humidity, or closer than 1 meter to the Ajax hub. If there are ceiling beams protruding 30cm or more, install between every two beams.

What is the Interconnected Fire Detectors Alarm feature?

This feature activates the built-in sirens of all fire detectors in the system when at least one detector is triggered. It’s supported by both FireProtect and FireProtect Plus with firmware versions 3.42 and later. You can set a delay of 0-5 minutes before interconnected alarms activate, giving you time to eliminate false alarm causes.

How loud are the alarms on both models?

Both FireProtect and FireProtect Plus produce an 85 dB alarm at a distance of 3 meters, which is loud enough to be heard from a considerable distance and wake sleeping occupants during emergencies.

How do I test the detectors?

You can test both models by pressing the sensor button (logo center) for a few seconds. The detector will test the smoke chamber with electronic simulation of smoke generation and then activate the siren for 6 seconds. You’ll receive a notification in the Ajax app with the test results and detector status.

What does the HazeFlow algorithm do in both models?

HazeFlow is a software algorithm designed to prevent false alarms in both detectors. When smoke is first detected, the system performs a verification check. If smoke is still detected after 30 seconds during the second check, the alarm is activated. This helps filter out false triggers from dust, steam, or other non-fire particles.

What are the operating conditions for both detectors?

Both FireProtect and FireProtect Plus operate in temperatures from 0°C to +60°C with humidity up to 80%. They have an IP65 protection class for dust and water resistance. Both devices are designed for indoor use only and should not be exposed to extreme environmental conditions.

How do I know when the smoke chamber needs cleaning?

Both detectors automatically monitor dust levels in the smoke chamber and will notify you via the app when cleaning is needed. They will also beep every minute and a half when the chamber becomes too dusty. Regular cleaning is essential for proper operation of both models.

What happens when the detectors reach end of life?

The standard FireProtect has a lifespan of up to 10 years, while FireProtect Plus lasts up to 7 years due to the additional CO sensor. If a detector failure occurs, you’ll receive a notification that it needs to be replaced or submitted for comprehensive diagnostics. Both devices continuously monitor their own functionality and will alert you to any issues.

Is there a specific feature for environments with potential false alarms?

Yes, both models offer a “Smoke double-check” option recommended for premises with potential sources of false alarms (like areas with dust or steam). When enabled, the detector reports a smoke alarm and activates the built-in siren, then starts a 30-second timer. If the detector still detects a threat after 30 seconds, an alarm is sent to the hub, reducing false alarms.
