Summary
The VESDA VLC detector has been specifically designed to provide all the benefits of aspirating smoke detection, including very early warning, in single environment small areas and where space is at a premium. Combining the well-proven VESDA VLP detection technology with a modified aspirator design, the VLC incorporates these advanced capabilities into a compact enclosure with a simplified display.
Available in two variants – one that interfaces via relays only (VLC-500) and one that interfaces via relays and VESDAnet (VLC-505) – the VLC offers flexible installation options. The VESDAnet version is compatible with the remote Display Module, allowing current detector status to be reported in the most convenient location whilst providing 7 remote relays to support any combination of signalling demanded by the application.

What is the difference between VLC-500 and VLC-505 models?
The VLC-500 interfaces via relays only (RO), whilst the VLC-505 interfaces via both relays and VESDAnet (VN). The VN version allows for network communication and is compatible with remote Display Modules.
What is the maximum coverage area for the VESDA VLC?
The VLC can cover up to 800 m² (8,000 sq.ft) for code compliant applications, or up to 2,370 m² (25,500 sq.ft) maximum with 120-second transport time. Local code requirements take precedence.
What are the alarm sensitivity ranges?
The VLC offers a wide sensitivity range from 0.005% to 20% obs/m (0.0015% to 6.25% obs/ft), with configurable thresholds for Alert, Pre-Alarm, and Fire levels.
How does the AutoLearn feature work?
AutoLearn technology adapts to the environment over a period from 15 minutes to 15 days (recommended minimum 14 days). During AutoLearn, thresholds are not changed from pre-set values whilst the system learns environmental conditions.
What pipe network configurations are supported?
The VLC supports maximum pipe lengths of 1 x 80 m (260ft) or 2 x 50 m (164ft), with internal pipe diameter of 15-21 mm and external diameter of 25 mm. Network design should use the ASPIRE2™ computer design tool.
What power requirements does the VLC have?
