Summary

The ZP755WV-2R (product code 178701) is an addressable weatherproof sounder and visual indicator beacon designed specifically for outdoor fire alarm applications on ZP addressable fire detection and alarm systems. Combining both audible and visual alarm signals in a single robust unit, this device provides comprehensive fire warning capabilities in challenging environmental conditions.

Installed directly onto and powered by the ZP wiring loop, the ZP755WV-2R enables system designers to offer a complete addressable fire alarm solution on a single pair of wires. This innovative approach significantly reduces installation costs whilst enhancing system integrity, increasing sounder options, and providing greater flexibility in programmed alarm organisation. The device’s high efficiency design allows up to 24 sounder beacons to be connected to a one kilometre loop of 1.5mm² cable with a wiring run of 50m to the first device.

Featuring a high efficiency sound gun transducer and low current LED-based visual element, the ZP755WV-2R delivers a sound output of 95 dBA measured at 1 metre. Multiple tone options are available including continuous, intermittent and two-tone audible outputs, from which any combination can be selected to provide alert and evacuate two-stage alarms. All sound types comply with most local codes, including BS 5839 Part 1 recommended frequencies in the UK. The unit includes an integrated volume control for areas where reduced sound output is required. Moulded in high impact red thermoplastic with a red lens and IP33C rating, the device is built to withstand harsh outdoor conditions while maintaining reliable performance.

FAQs

What is the maximum number of ZP755WV-2R devices that can be connected to a single loop?

Up to 30 ZP755WV-2R sounder beacons can be powered directly from loop wiring. In optimal conditions with a 1 kilometre loop of 1.5mm² cable and 50m wiring run to the first device, up to 24 sounder beacons can be connected. For more complex installations, combinations of 80 detectors with 20 sounders, or 100 detectors with 15 sounders are possible depending on cable lengths. In systems where loop lengths or current requirements are excessive, devices can be powered directly from an external 18-30 VDC power supply.

What tone options are available and how are they configured?

The ZP755WV-2R offers three tone types: continuous, intermittent, and two-tone warble (980 Hz/670 Hz). In ZP755 device mode, you can configure two separate tones (Tone A and Tone B) using DIP switches SW2-1, SW2-2, and SW2-3. This allows for six different tone combinations to provide alert and evacuate two-stage alarms. For example, you can set Tone A as intermittent and Tone B as continuous, or Tone A as two-tone and Tone B as intermittent. All tones comply with BS 5839 Part 1 recommended frequencies and other local codes.

Can the ZP755WV-2R be used indoors as well as outdoors?

While the ZP755WV-2R is specifically designed and rated for outdoor applications with an IP33C environmental protection rating, it can technically be used indoors. However, for indoor-only applications, you may wish to consider alternative models that are optimised for indoor environments. The weatherproof construction makes this device ideal for exposed outdoor locations, car parks, loading bays, and other areas subject to weather conditions.

How is the device addressed?

The ZP755WV-2R uses a 7-way DIP switch (SW1) for addressing, allowing addresses from 1 to 127. Each switch has a decimal value (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64), and the device address is the sum of the switch values set to ON. For example, to set address 7, you would set switches 1, 2, and 3 to ON (1+2+4=7) and all other switches to OFF. Note that the switch values determine the address, not the switch numbers.

What is the difference between ZP755 and ZP754 emulation modes?

The device mode is configured using DIP switch SW2-6. In ZP755 mode (SW2-6 OFF), the device offers user-selectable two-tone operation with full monitoring capabilities and multiple tone combinations. In ZP754 emulation mode (SW2-6 ON), the device provides two fixed tones for compatibility with ZP5 panels or ZP3 panels with legacy firmware. Most installations will use ZP755 mode for maximum flexibility.

How loud is the sounder output?

The ZP755WV-2R produces a sound output of 95 dBA measured at 1 metre (tone dependent, with maximum output of <90 dB(A) depending on tone selection). The device includes an adjustable volume control potentiometer for areas where reduced sound output is required. However, to conform to EN 54 Part 3 sound output levels, the volume control must be set to the full clockwise position for certified installations.

What are the power requirements?

The device can be powered in two ways: directly from the loop (19.5 to 20.5V) or from an external power supply (18-30 VDC with maximum 4V line loss). When loop powered, quiescent current consumption is less than 820 µA with alarm current less than 9.6 mA. When externally powered, quiescent current is less than 470 µA with alarm current less than 500 µA. Power source selection is configured using jumpers J1 and J2 on the PCB.

What certifications does the ZP755WV-2R hold?

The device is EN54-3 approved and CPR (Construction Products Regulation) certified with notified body number 0370. It also complies with CE marking requirements, REACH regulations, and RoHS 2 directives. The Declaration of Performance number is 360-5201-0699. The device carries the year of first CE marking as 2014, demonstrating a long-established track record of compliance and reliability.

How is the device installed and secured?

The ZP755WV-2R is designed for surface mounting on walls or ceilings. Installation involves wiring the PCB, setting the power source, configuring the address and operating modes, setting the tone and volume, connecting power cables through cable entry holes, and securing the unit with four mounting screws. One of the four mounting screws must be the supplied one-way clutch head security screw to prevent unauthorised tampering and comply with EN 54-3 requirements. The device uses 2-core loop wiring with cable size between 0.75 and 1.5mm².
