Medium Property Fire Alarm Kit — Battery (Grade F1)
A complete, fully wireless battery-powered fire alarm kit for two-storey homes (typically 2–3 bedrooms).
- Sealed 10-year batteries throughout — no battery replacement, minimal maintenance.
- All alarms, including the CO, interlink wirelessly as standard — no modules or wiring needed.
- Buying for a rental, or want the most robust option? Mains systems are recommended UK-wide and are legally required for rented homes in Wales — a battery kit won’t comply there. For rentals, choose a Mains D1 kit.
- Fuel-burning appliances in more than one room? You’ll need an extra CO alarm for each additional room. In Wales, this also applies to rooms with gas cookers.
- Scotland: homes also need a smoke alarm in the main living area (one per living area if there’s more than one).

Suitability
This kit is suitable for two-storey houses and medium-sized homes, retrofit installations in existing properties where running mains wiring is not practical, and properties where a simple, flexible installation is preferred.
It provides LD2 level of protection: smoke detection in escape routes such as hallways and landings, and heat detection in high-risk areas such as the kitchen. This is the standard level of protection for most UK domestic properties.
Installation
This is a fully wireless battery-powered system. No mains wiring or interlink cabling is required, making installation quicker and more flexible than a mains-powered system. Because no mains connection is needed, it can be installed without a qualified electrician in many cases. We always recommend checking local regulations and manufacturer guidance before a self-installation, particularly for rental properties where compliance requirements apply.
All alarms interlink wirelessly as standard, including the CO alarm, with the interlink built into every alarm — no modules or configuration required. When any alarm activates, all alarms sound throughout the property simultaneously, so everyone is alerted regardless of where a fire starts or where carbon monoxide is detected.
Further wireless alarms can be added to the system later, such as in bedrooms or living areas, without cabling.
Carbon Monoxide Protection
A carbon monoxide (CO) alarm is included as standard. CO alarms are recommended for any property with a fuel-burning appliance such as a gas boiler, oil boiler, wood-burning stove or solid fuel fire.
In this kit the CO alarm is interlinked with the smoke and heat alarms, so when it detects carbon monoxide, all alarms in the property sound together.
One CO alarm is included. Properties with a fuel-burning appliance in more than one room will need an extra CO alarm for each additional room (available to add to your order).
England: a CO alarm is required in any room with a fixed combustion appliance (for example a gas boiler, oil boiler, wood-burning stove or solid fuel fire). Gas cookers are excluded.
Wales: a CO alarm is required in any room with a gas, oil or solid fuel appliance — and, unlike England, this includes rooms with a gas cooker.
Scotland: a CO alarm is required in any room with a carbon-fuelled appliance or a flue.
If you are unsure how many CO alarms your property requires, the System Finder will confirm this based on your property details.
Regional Compliance
For rental properties, mains-powered systems are strongly recommended. In England and Scotland a wireless F1 system may meet the minimum legal requirement, but it is not always accepted by letting agents, local authorities or insurers, so it’s advisable to confirm suitability before installing. In Wales, rented homes must have mains-connected, interlinked smoke alarms, so a battery F1 system will not meet the legal requirement. For rental properties in Wales a mains system (the D1 kits) is mandatory.
England: this kit meets standard LD2 domestic fire alarm guidance for medium properties. A carbon monoxide (CO) alarm is required in any room with a fixed combustion appliance (excluding gas cookers).
Wales: rented homes must have mains-connected, interlinked smoke alarms — a battery F1 kit does not meet this requirement, so a Mains D1 kit is needed for Welsh rentals. A CO alarm is required in any room with a gas, oil or solid fuel appliance, and unlike England this includes rooms with a gas cooker.
Scotland: all homes must have a smoke alarm in the main living area (one per living area if there’s more than one) in addition to the escape route detection included in this kit. Additional smoke alarms are available separately and can be added to this kit to meet Scottish requirements.
